TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF BALLROOM CHOREOGRAPHY IN NORTH AMERICA, LATE XIX – EARLY XXI CENTURY

Abstract

The aim of this article. The purpose of the article is to analyze the historical processes of development of ballroom choreography in North America in the late XIX – early XXI century.

Research methodology are an organic set of basic principles of research: objectivity, historicism, multifactority, systemicity, complexity, development and pluralism, and to achieve the goal, the following methods of scientific knowledge are used: problem-chronological, concrete historical, statistical, descriptive, logical – analytical.

Results. The peculiarities of the North American school of ballroom choreography have been clarified. It was the USA that became the birthplace of eccentric dances, ballroom dances of Latin American origin underwent a stylistic transformation, and original ballroom dances emerged. Important for the world development of ballroom choreography was the popularity of American cinema, the activities of famous masters of ballroom choreography, as well as the formation of a unique style of performing Smooth and Rhythm.

Novelty. For the first time an attempt was made to scientifically study topical issues of ballroom choreography development in North America at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 21st century.

The practical significance. The research may be used in developing lectures by specialists in choreography.
