SPECIFICS OF O. YAKOVCHUK’S POLYPHONIC CYCLE IN COMPARING THE CATEGORY «TRADITIONAL – INNOVATIVE»

Abstract

The twentieth century in Ukrainian musical culture is marked by the great interest of composers in the genre of the polyphonic cycle, which was developed in the Baroque era. One of a modern Ukrainian composers who presented his distinctive perception of the baroque prototype is Oleksandr Yakovchuk, in whose creative work the polyphonic cycle «12 preludes and fugues for piano» occupies a prominent place.

The article provides a theoretical and musicological review of the cycle, highlights the main traditional and innovative approaches to the composition of preludes and fugues, analyzes in more details two minicycles – «in Es» and «in B».
