RITE OF BAPTISM AND NAMING (BASED ON THE PARISH REGISTERS)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the consideration of the rite of baptism and the naming of newborns according to the parish registers. The parish registers contain the richest information material, increasingly attracting the attention of researchers. The information contained in the parish registers on the performing of the baptismal ceremony is analyzed in the article. The names that were most often given to the children during baptism rite are identified. Also the compliance with the requirements of the Orthodox Church to venerate church saints and provide their names to newborns, conformity to the saints, as well as the observance of the church calendar, which is reflected in the parish registers of the Orthodox population are revealed
