Abstract

This paper presents a review of publications exploring the genesis of the genre of cantata in the national musical art. The author considers the best models of cantatas in the list of Ukrainian composers of the past and present. The article also describes the peculiarities of creating of the cantata «The Song about Chornovil» by modern composer Mykola Lastovets’kyy as the first work − a musical dedication to prominent politicians and dissidents. Cantata’s structure, performing cast, musical and expressive means has been analyzed. Its genre and style attributes appear that cantata is a solemnly-exalted glorious composition with signs of philosophical generalization. A particular attention is paid to the role of the hero of Ukraine Vyacheslav Chornovil as an example of an indomitable fighter for independence, freedom and democracy
