Design is evolving beyond its traditional functional and aesthetic roles toward an integrative, interdisciplinary practice in the context of accelerating technological development, sociocultural complexity, and the globalization of creative industries. This transformation foregrounds the need for structured conceptual thinking and strategic foresight from the earliest stages of the design process. This article addresses the methodological gap in the organization of conceptual search in design, arguing for a systematic approach that unifies cognitive, cultural, communicative, and innovative components of creative ideation. While existing practices often rely on intuitive and fragmented methods, this research proposes a comprehensive framework that enhances the originality and applicability of design solutions across complex environments.
The study outlines the theoretical foundations and practical modeling of a methodology for conceptual search. It can be adaptable to diverse design contexts. Emphasis is placed on the conceptual tools – such as moodboards, stakeholder maps, associative arrays, and conceptual maps – in guiding the transition from abstract ideation to coherent design vision. The methodology is presented like a multi-stage process encompassing analytical, generative, and structural phases, each supported by distinct methods and visual instruments. Drawing upon recent interdisciplinary research, including the integration of artificial intelligence and speculative design, this work contributes to a more rigorous and pedagogically viable model for concept generation in the development. Ultimately, the proposed methodology supports the formation of critical thinking, project culture, and professional identity among future design practitioners, addressing current demands for innovation and responsiveness in design education and practice.
