Abstract

The article explores the phenomenon of intercultural interaction within the framework of Otherness studies as a contemporary philosophical and humanitarian paradigm. Special attention is given to the analysis of both Ukrainian and Western scholarly approaches to the concept of the «"ther», focusing on its role in shaping cultural identity, educational policy, and social dialogue. The paper emphasizes that in the Ukrainian humanities discourse, the notion of otherness is actively developed in the context of post-Soviet transformations, national self-determination, and multiculturalism. The works of Ukrainian scholars such as M. Popovych, V. Andrushchenko, A. Yermolenko, and V. Sukovata are analyzed, where the «"ther» is interpreted as an ethical and sociocultural category crucial for intercultural harmony.
The article also explores the impact of Otherness studies on educational policy, including Western models of intercultural competence (such as those by D. Deardorff and D. DiBenedetto) and Ukrainian initiatives for incorporating the principles of otherness into educational content. It is emphasized that the humanization of the educational process through Otherness studies approaches promotes empathy, tolerance, and dialogue with representatives of other cultures.
A comparative analysis of Ukrainian and Western contexts of inshology reveals shared conceptual orientations (ethical attitude toward the other, openness to diversity) as well as specific national features. The conclusion highlights the relevance of Otherness studies as a tool for overcoming cultural barriers and creating an inclusive educational environment in the context of globalization.
