FASHION COSTUME DURING THE RUSSIAN INVASION OF UKRAINE
Abstract
The purpose of the article. to analyze fashion trends during the Russian-Ukrainian war through the actual styles of fashionable costumes.
The methodology. In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the methods of research of the of fashion costume specifics are based on the cultural approach, which includes the following methods: cross-cultural method (to determine the communicative function of costume through the socio-cultural behavior of a person); structural-functional method (to substantiate the structural elements of costume in the fashion system, taking into account their functions); method of semiotic analysis (to understand the symbolic and artistic-figurative structure of fashion costume in various artistic trends). General scientific methods such as source analysis, comparative analysis, and generalization are commonly used.
Conclusions. Thus, fashion costume as a source of information and a national culture representative is a complex socio-cultural phenomenon. It correlates the relationship between the structure of fashion and various status-role social functions. Today, the work of the world's leading designers embodies unprecedented support to the Ukrainian people's struggle against the Russian occupants. At the same time, representatives of world-famous Ukrainian brands introduce samples of Ukrainian culture in their best models. Even the Queens appear in Ukrainian embroidered shirts. The most common fashion trends in costume design are a combination of asceticism and creativity, minimalism and military style and Ukrainian ethnic style in clothing, jewelry, accessories, etc. Fashion during the war informs about socially important events, democratic principles and universal values through fashion shows and fashion brands, promoting the idea of maintaining human dignity and life itself.
The scientific novelty. Based on the cultural analysis, the article studies the socio-cultural phenomenon of fashion costume during the Russian-Ukrainian war on the examples of the work of Ukrainian designers and world-famous couturiers through the definition of current styles (minimalism, oversize and grunge, military and ethnic style). It also reveals the possibility of researching fashion costumes as a source of cultural information.
The practical significance of results obtained. The research results may be used in the further scientific investigations on art history and culture, in the research work of MA students and postgraduate students. Also this theme can be used to develop lectures and seminars, training courses on the history and theory of culture, world art culture as well as for creation of special courses and seminars in the context of introduction to design.
