REVISITING THE ISSUE OF THE WORLDVIEW PICTURE OF FATHER OSTAP NYZHANKIVSKYI

Abstract

The aim – to reveal the socio-political, socio-cultural, life landmarks of Fr. O. Nyzhankivskyi, to characterize the individual picture of the artist's world.

Research methodology. Twenty-seven sources are used in the article. The author of the research relies on scientific works, which covered the life and career of the composer Fr. O. Nyzhankivsky, journalistic materials from periodicals «Dilo», «Kievskaia mysl», «Novyi Shliakh», «Shliakh Peremohy», «Ukrayinske Slovo», historical memoirs and local lore publications on the development of Galicia in the early twentieth century and research works on basic concepts of philosophy.

Novelty. On the basis of musicological research, the main worldviews of the awakener of the Ukrainian people of the beginning of the XX century, the composer father Ostap Nyzhankivskyi are characterized. On the basis of his life world, the definition of the Galician artist’s world individual picture type has been determined as Ukrainian-centric. There have been listed the well-known representatives of the Nyzhankivskyi family, who contributed to the socio-political, socio-cultural development of Eastern Galicia during the period of statelessness. A review of the conducting activities of Fr. O. Nyzhankivskyi in the Czechoslovak lands and in Naddniprianshchyna Ukraine has been conducted. The composer's heritage is analyzed, namely: choral, instrumental, chamber-vocal.

The economic growth of the region has been proved by the use of Fr. O. Nyzhankivskyi of the national socio-economic management model. His political work is covered. The activity of the priest on the introduction of classes in the Ukrainian language in gymnasiums, cooperation with the Ukrainian Sichovi Striltsi, the Skala football team, and youth associations has been studied.

The practical significance. The article will be a good basis for researchers of the personality role of the spiritual leader in the nation-building processes of Galicia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as well as for musicologists who study the importance of Fr. O. Nyzhankivskyi in the professional growth of Ukrainian musical art.
