THE FIRST STEPS OF THE MODERN DANCE ON THE UKRAINIAN SCENE OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE XX CENTURE

Abstract

An overview of publications containing information on the manifestations of modern dance on the Ukrainian stage (scene) of the first half of the XX century. The names of its representatives are specified. Ways of mastering the aesthetics of modern dance on the Ukrainian stage of this period have been identified: 1) the using of drama theatres by directors and choreographers to design performances of modern dance (rhythmic, «free», expressionist and «machine dances»); 2) touring performances of A. Duncan, K. Goleizovsky, Western European choreographers (Galicia); 3) productions of ballets of author’s choreography on Ukrainian stages by foreign artists. Forms of presentation of modern dance on the Ukrainian stage of the specified period are revealed: choreographic evening (parts); ballet performances; design of dramatic performances (rhythmoplastic constructions of mass scenes; plastic leitmotifs – characteristics of the characters).
