AESTHETIC EVALUATION OF THE ACOUSTIC PROPERTIES OF CONCERT HALLS (ON THE EXAMPLE OF COMPARING THE SOUND OF MUSICAL WORKS)
Abstract
This article is devoted to the aesthetic evaluation of the acoustic properties of concert halls based on the properties of human perception of musical material. Aesthetic evaluation is carried out using a set of important criteria of the established sample: such as spaciousness, width, timbre, legibility, volume, etc. Subjective criteria correlate with the objective acoustic parameters of concert halls and are closely interrelated. To perform the research, concert halls were selected and brief information about them was provided. For aesthetic evaluation, a piece of music performed by a symphony orchestra was selected. The survey was conducted among soundengineers, composers, conductors, musicians, music critics and regular concert-goers and performances. The results of the survey were systematized and a comparative characteristic of the sound of the selected work was given in three selected concert halls.
