SOURCES OF CARPETING OF POLTAVA REGION AT THE END OF THE ХVІІІ – ХІХ CENTURIES

Abstract

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the art of carpeting of Poltava region by individual artifacts, which are now stored in the collections of the state museums of Ukraine. The main varieties of the earliest articles, attributed by researchers as authentic works of Poltava carpet workshops of the late 18th – first half of the 19th centuries, are considered. An attempt was made to verify information about Poltava rugs of a certain period, made in oriental style.
The sources of inspiration of the outlined group of carpets are characterized, taking into account the modern data on the world art centers of carpet making and artistic peculiarities of their production. The artistic tastes of the population of Poltava region at the end of the 18th – the first half of the 19th centuries are analyzed, the requirements of local consumers for stylized orientated carpet products made with the knowledge of Asian first-handers are established. The connection of the work of local artists with highly artistic Iranian, Afghan, Pakistani, Turkish, Azerbaijani, and French carpet traditions has been traced.
