Abstract

The aim of the article is to identify the features of the visualization and rethinking of gender roles in digital culture, considering stand-up comedy as a form of cultural and philosophical discourse.
Research methodology. The study reviewed eight key publications on the subject, including scientific articles, a monograph, and theoretical works on humor and cultural discourse. The materials were analysed using cultural, discursive, and comparative approaches, with particular attention to the interrelation between stand-up comedy, social communication, and the transformation of gender representations in digital culture. Results. The study demonstrates that stand-up comedy in contemporary digital culture functions beyond entertainment, acquiring the features of a specific cultural discourse in which humor operates as a tool for interpreting social reality. It is established that gender roles within stand-up are not presented as fixed constructs but emerge as situational and dynamic formations shaped through comedic performance. The analysis reveals that humor, particularly through the use of stereotypes, exaggeration, and incongruity, exposes the instability of socially accepted norms. Furthermore, it is shown that digital media significantly transforms the structure of stand-up by fragmenting performances and enhancing their visual and expressive intensity. Special attention is given to the figure of the comedian, who acts as an interpreter of everyday experience and participates in shaping contemporary understandings of gender. Novelty of the research lies in the integrated cultural-philosophical interpretation of stand-up comedy as a space for the visualization and reinterpretation of gender roles in digital culture.
Unlike previous studies focused primarily on linguistic or genre aspects, this research highlights the interplay between verbal, visual, and performative elements in constructing gender meanings. It also introduces the perspective of the comedian as a specific type of cultural agent whose role extends beyond performance to the reflexive mediation of social norms. The study further emphasizes the impact of digital environments on the transformation of comedic discourse and its influence on gender representations.
The practical significance. The results of the study can be applied in cultural studies, media studies, gender studies, and communication research. They may be useful for analysing contemporary forms of popular culture, particularly those related to digital media and performative practices. The findings can also be employed in educational contexts, including courses on visual culture, cultural theory, and modern media discourse. In addition, the study contributes to a better understanding of how humor functions as a tool for critical reflection, which may be relevant for both academic research and creative industries.
