SEMANTICS OF MUSICAL SYMBOLS OF UKRAINIAN BAROQUE IN THE CONTEXT OF A DIALOGUE OF CULTURES

Abstract

The article reveals sacred semantics of musical symbols of the late Ukrainian Baroque on example of major and minor tones and metro–rhythmic figures. In the context of a dialogue of cultures the connection between tones, metro–rhythmic figures and musical symbols through filling them with sacred meanings is comprehended. Decoding the sacred symbolism of Ukrainian baroque music and its comparison with Western European musical symbolism assists to preserve the cultural memory of Ukrainian people and to reveal some common and separate features in a dialogue of musical cultures.
