Abstract

The urgency of the problem. The creative activity of the concert, chamber and opera singer of the Ukrainian diaspora,
Mykhailo Hryhorovych Minsky (1918–1988), who had a wide resonance in the Ukrainian environment after World War II, is
considered. It is covered in fragmentary form in emigration periodicals and modern research by Ukrainian scientists.
The purpose of the study is to identify the identification and communication dimensions of Mykhailo Minsky's creative activity in the conditions of emigration.
Research methodology. The work uses an interdisciplinary methodology that combines cultural analysis, biographical description, elements of comparative analysis, as well as content analysis of diaspora periodicals and sound recordings.
Results. The conducted content analysis of diaspora periodicals and sound recordings demonstrates the singer’s great
contribution to the development of Ukrainian musical culture and the formation of his own Ukrainian identification. As a dynamic personality, the singer constantly worked on improving his vocal skills, replenishing his repertoire with new works by contemporary composers of Ukraine and the diaspora. Composers of the Ukrainian diaspora A.Rudnytskyi, V.Hrydyn, M.Fomenko, and others wrote works for the singer. His repertoire included vocal opuses by M.Lysenko, Y.Stepovyi, V.Barvinskyi, D.Sichynskyi, A.Hnatyshyn, K.Dankevych, L.Revutskyi, Y.Maitus, V.Kosenko, M.Kolessa, I.Sonevytskyi, M.Fomenko, and Ukrainian folk songs. Through communication (through concert performances, sound recordings), Mykhailo Minsky influenced the formation of the national identity of the Ukrainian community in the world, and introduced Ukrainian music to the peoples of the world. In total, the singer recorded more than 20 albums (more than 120 pieces) of Ukrainian vocal music (folk songs and solos by Ukrainian composers) on American and European labels, which constitute an invaluable fund of our heritage.
Novelty. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time the identification and communication dimensions of the creative activity of Mykhailo Minsky in emigration conditions have been carried out.
The practical significance. The singer’s recordings and information about him can be used in lectures on vocal skills and the history of Ukrainian music.
