TRANSFORMATION OF FOLKLORE SOURCES IN YU. MEITUS'S OPERA «STOLEN HAPPINESS»

The aim of this paper is to identify the main compositional techniques of Yu. Meitus in the transformation of folklore sources in the nationally oriented opera «Stolen Happiness».
Research methods. The study applies general scientific principles, methods and approaches. The methodology of the work has a complex character and is based on such methods as: historical, analytical and musical-textological.
Results. It was investigated that the musical material of Yu. Meitus's opera «Stolen Happiness» is based on such compositional methods as: quoting and free stylization of folk songs, which generalize the characteristic features of the ethno-regional tradition. The author's transformation of folk sources was accomplished through the use of such compositional techniques as: expansion of the ladotonal system, dynamization of the rhythmic structure, enrichment of the timbre-sonor quality. The composer used an adapted stylistics 3 a key characteristic of the secondary-stylistic, interpretative complex, which includes intonation-mode variation and orchestral processing of folk motifs. Yu. Meitus also applied figurative and intonation modification of the quoted folk melodies and their characteristic elements, which contributed to the musical material acquiring a new semantic and textural-harmonic quality.
Novelty. An attempt is made in this paper to explore the individual authorial style of Yu. Meitus and reveal the subtle combination of a deep synthesis between folklore tradition and modern musical techniques.
The practical significance. The practical value of the work lies in the possibility of using the materials in the course «History of Ukrainian Music» and serving as a source of inspiration for fellow researchers in the field of Ukrainian music, facilitating their scholarly investigations.
