Abstract

The article discusses the fundamentals of colouristic thinking of one of the leading contemporary Ukrainian
composers Myroslav Skoryk in such a sphere specific in regards to timbre expressiveness as descriptive piano music associated with the ethnic origins of the Carpathian folklore. It is noted that Skoryk's piano colouristics in the cycle «In the Carpathians» has several basic prerequisites: deep personal rootedness in the mountain landscape, which comes from early childhood, creative inventiveness, which covers many aspects of the artist’s individual style, including the colouristic timbre side of musical pictorialism; pianist's own practice. Various colouristic and spatial techniques can be found that create vivid visual allusions in the perception of the early piano cycle of Skoryk.
