ECOLOGICAL COMPATIBILITY AS A TREND IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PRODUCT AND FURNITURE DESIGN IN UKRAINE (ON THE CASE OF THE «ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO OF SERGEI MAKHNO»)

Abstract

The proposed article aims to outline the specifics of the influence of environmental trends on the design of contemporary furniture, to consider the work of Sergey Makhno Architects in the context of the development of furniture enterprises and design studios in Ukraine, to analyze the creative component of the studio's object design and to outline the eco-focus.
Research methodology. The sources for this article are scientific publications by well-known researchers who specialize in Ukrainian design, as well as some analytical and journalistic materials. The descriptive method, analysis and synthesis were used.
Results. It was found that product design now has not only a utilitarian purpose, but are symbolic and emotional component of symbolic forms belonging a particular to the social and cultural sphere. The development of ecological trends in Ukraine is not very dynamic, but is actively used and well represented by the activities of individual enterprises, in particular, by studio «Sergey Makhno Architects»). After analyzing the activity of this studio, it was established that the direction of subject eco-design is one of the important components of their work. The studio's products feature a special style, in which the ecological concepts and ethnic motifs of traditional folk culture are harmoniously combined. This fact gives some basis to talk about the possibility of formation of a certain national eco-style model in the future. In addition, it is generalized that a wide
range of ecological trends in product and furniture design in particular, as well as the emergence in the Ukrainian market of highly professional design studios engaged exclusively in eco-furniture, show that these issues are relevant at the present stage.
Novelty. The studies of the ecological factors in the furniture and product design is very important in the context of the theory of modern decorative art and design in Ukraine. This particular aspect has not been studied in a professional and comprehensive way.
The practical significance. The materials of this article can be used for further research on this topic and have practical value for the development and improvement of educational programs and special courses for students.
