THE IMAGE OF THE MOTHER OF GOD IN MUSICOLOGICAL STUDIES OF THE 20TH AND FIRST DECADES OF THE 21 ST CENTURIES
Abstract
The study is dedicated to the review of musicological studies, which present various aspects of the embodiment of the image of the Mother of God in music in the singing Orthodox liturgical tradition of the Middle Ages and Modern times, based on the material of non-literal and non-linear samples of theotokos' chants.
Research methodology. Descriptive, analytical regarding the issues of musicological research of the last decades on Mariological topics.
Results. Scientific studies related to the study of the peculiarities of the embodiment of the image of the Mother of God in musical art have been revealed. The author identified a circle of modern Ukrainian researchers-musicologists who study various aspects of the embodiment of the image of the Mother of God in music in the singing Orthodox liturgical tradition of the Middle Ages and Modern times on the material of non-literal and non-linear samples of theotokos songs: archetypal-mythological and gender cut (N. Syrotynska, T. Kaplun), the reflection of Christian dogmatics and the principles of the functioning of the song structure in the hymns of the Virgin Mary (O. Prylepa, O. Putyatitska), features of the embodiment of the Marian theme in the choral work of K. Gorskyi (H. Marynchak).
Also, the leading research methods of the liturgical tradition are indicated in the article.
Novelty. For the first time in modern musicology, a circle of scientific studies of the last decades devoted to various aspects of the study of the musical embodiment of the image of the Blessed Virgin in the liturgical singing tradition of the Middle Ages and the New Age has been revealed.
The practical significance. studies, the history of church singing, and the history of Ukrainian music.
