through the prism of Western European traditions.
The methology basis of the work are the researches of Ukrainian and foreign musicologists, that are investigating
the development ,music form, tonality and harmony in the music of the XXth century were used. There are also works
dedicated to the Zhang Qianya’s works and studies that reveal the main methods of combining elements of the folk art
and professional music.
Conclusions. The instrumental ensemble «Farewell» by the Chinese composer Zhang Qianyi demonstrates
modern methods and approaches in the realization of a creative idea. The composer boldly combines Western European
means of speech and Chinese musical peculiarity. The analysis of the musical canvas made it possible to determine the
main frequencies of the use of means of musical expression in instrumental creativity, in particular, to increase
emotional tension, the author resorts to the introduction of highly dissonant combinations and thickening of the facture,
achieving special sonoristic effects. Also, in the work, we highlighted the prevailing trends of the author's musical
language, which consists of the close communication of Eastern and Western musical cultures. The composer pays
special attention to the embodiment of the folkloric specificities, which we follow in the appeal to sound-image effects,
as well as the imitation of playing on folk instruments. We should note that the means of musical expressiveness are
subordinated to the main goal – to reflect the figurative content of the composition as best as possible. The form of the
work is inserted into the free form, according to the formula: a-b-c-d-e-f-g with intonation arches. The author devotes a
significant role in the composition to modern compositional techniques, in particular, we note the sonoristic effects that
are embodied mainly in the parts of the piano and percussion instruments, creating unique sound combinations. Zhang
Qianyi also uses controlled form-creating aleatorics, thanks to which the form acquires a thorough development. The
result of the analysis of "Farewell" demonstrates the peculiarities of Zhang Qianya's musical language in instrumental
creativity, helps to fully understand the artist's style as well as traces the interaction of Chinese and European traditions.
