EUROPEAN DIMENSIONS OF UKRAINIAN CULTUROLOGICAL THOUGHT OF THE LATE ХІХ TH – TO THE EARLY ХХTH CENTURY IN THE CONTEXT OF DMYTRO OVSIANYKO-KULYKOVSKYI’S SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

Abstract

Arguments are provided for the fact that in the aforementioned context, special attention must be paid to the attitude of O. Potebnia and D. Ovsianyko-Kulykovskyi and other Kharkiv scientists towards the ideas of French positivism in general and towards the aesthetical concept presented by H. Taine (1828–1893) in particular. It is shown that the French model of positivism was popular among Ukrainian creative intelligentsia of the 1870s–1890s and brought the «European tinge» not to the creative young community alone, but to the scientific community as well. Positive evaluation and support are given to the experience of
the comparative analysis of the ideas presented by H. Taine and D. Ovsianyko-Kulykovskyi carried out by M. Huseltseva.
