One of the important links in the mechanisms of communication in the structure «composer – performer – listener» is music printing, which in different historical epochs served a function of distribution of musical texts. The changes taking place in this area today demand careful thought.

Methodology. The principle of historicism is fundamental in the study. The historical-genetic method was used to demonstrate the functioning of music publishing houses as an integral part of the artistic segment of the social and cultural space from the XVth and XVIth centuries to the present. The comparative method was used to compare the organization of publishing activities in different countries.

Results. It is emphasized that in Ukraine the issue of music publishing houses became critical in the first third of the ХХth century, when the putting into practice an idea of national musical culture became relevant. The implementation of the policy formed back then in this area was continued by the first specialized music publishing house «Musical Ukraine», founded in 1966. Its work responded to the demands of society and at the same time influenced the intensity of the information space. Facilitating access to the national repertoire, including works by contemporary composers, enriches the opportunities of both professional creative groups and amateur musicians. In China, the largest professional music publishing company is the Peoplepos s Music Publishing House, founded in 1954. One of its main projects in the XXIst century was the preparation of the «Music Library of Contemporary Chinese Composers».

Driven by the publication of these works, China’s sound environment as part of the social and cultural space becomes saturated with music that embodies national values.

Novelty. For the first time, the experience of Ukraine and China in the field of music printing is compared. The information on the activities of leading music publishers in China and some institutions of Ukraine is provided.

The practical importance. Studying the experience of music publishers in different countries in the current situation can be an important factor in ensuring the optimization of processes in this area.
