«UKRAINIAN BELL RINGING» OF CARILLON AND BANDURA : RESULTS OF THE ALL-UKRAINIAN ART PROJECT
Abstract
The article discusses the concept of creation, the course of implementation and the results of the art project «Ukrainian bell ringing. Carillon and Bandura», carried out with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation in cooperation with carillon player Iryna Riabchun (Kyiv) and the bandura quartet «Gerdan» under the leadership of Violetta Dutchak (Ivano-Frankivsk).
The aim. The purpose of the article is to analyze the course and results of the concert project «Ukrainian bell ringing. Carillon and Bandura», dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and implemented during June-October 2021 with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
The methodology. The study uses historical, culturological, musicological, axiological approaches and methods.
Results. The analysis of the project implementation allowed to determine that it corresponds to modern postmodern tendencies in the creation of original artistic experiments both at the regional, and at the national and international levels. Among the main results: 1. in academic musical culture a new timbre ensemble was recorded – a carillon and a quartet of bandura players (instruments, singing); 2. intensified creativity of both composers (O. Herasymenko, R. Lisova, V. Stepurko, L. Horova) and performers-arrangers (V. Dutchak, I. Riabchun); 3. the repertoire for the new ensemble included a variety of works – from baroque to modernity, from folklore to the author’s works; 4. instrumental scores for the ensemble testify to the variety of different types of texture of arrangement and instrumentation, where the carillon conducted both the solo part (M. Skoryk «Melody», O. Herasymenko «Confession») and polyphonic (I. Riabchun Instrumental fantasy on the theme of Ukrainian folk song «Oh, whose horse is standing», S. Vakarchuk «Not your war»), complementary (K. Meladze, lyrics by D. Golde «Flower-soul», O. Lykhovyd «Virgin Mary»), sound D. Bortnyansky «Be the Lord’s Name», R. Kupchynsky, arrangement by Y. Kozak «The shuttle is swaying»); 5. popularization of both the carillon and the possibilities of its ensemble combination; 6. representation of a bandura ensemble in a new guise –accompaniment to the soloing carillon and a harmonious combination with its sound.
The practical significance. The research will facilitate the analysis of new ensemble and repertoire experiments in bandura and carillon art.
The novelty of the study. For the first time, an experimental combination of a carillon and a bandura quartet was analyzed on the basis of the results of practical activity of composers and performers. Information about the project and its significance for the Ukrainian musical art has been introduced into scientific circulation.
