ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE MOST PROMINENT SAXOPHONISTS AS EVIDENCE OF THE RAPID EVOLUTION OF CHINAS SAXOPHON ART IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE 21ST CENTURY

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to study aspects of the activities of leading Chinese saxophonists and their role in
the inclusion of Chinese saxophone art into the global musical space. Since the beginning of the 21st century,
saxophone art has triumphantly burst into the realm of Chinese instrumental music. This was facilitated by the
achievement of the highest level of national wind performance, active concert and lecturing activities in China by the
best world classical and jazz performers, the establishment of saxophone departments in most provinces of China at
instrumental departments of higher educational institutions and leading art centers, building diverse creative contacts
between Chinese musicians and leading saxophonists in the world, and the rapid development of national scientific and
methodological thought. In just twenty-five years, saxophone art in China has developed into an important independent
phenomenon, the performing, pedagogical, scientific and methodological achievements of which are highly appreciated
by the international community as one of the most significant in the modern musical scene of the world. Research
methods are based on search-source, analytical, musicological, comprehensive and systematic methods. The results
consist in highlighting the factors of the rise of Chinese saxophone art to the international level, the achievements of the
brightest followers of the founders of professional saxophone playing classes, the intensification of international
cooperation, the involvement of Chinese saxophonists in international competitions, scientific seminars and
symposiums, the popularization of works for saxophone by Chinese composers in the world, the growth of attention of
Chinese saxophonists to the works of Ukrainian composers. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the first
comprehensive study of the dominant factors of Chinese saxophone art, which were important in the process of its
dynamic development at the beginning of the 21st century. Practical significance. The materials of this study can be
used in further research of Chinese saxophone works and in the training courses «History of World Musical Culture»,
«History of Saxophone Art», «Saxophone Performance» for students of specialized secondary and higher musical
educational institutions of Ukraine and China
