The aim of the paper is to substantiate the principles of cross-disciplinarity in dance directing as a methodological
basis for ensuring the integrity and coherence of interaction between different artistic languages in a choreographic work.
Research methodology. The study is based on a combination of theoretical and comparative methods, including analysis and
generalization of scientific literature in the field of choreography, art studies, and interdisciplinary research. The
methodological framework relies on the concepts of cross-disciplinarity, intermediality, and synthesis of arts, which allow
examining choreographic art as an integrated system of interacting expressive means.
Results. The article explores cross-disciplinarity as a key methodological approach in contemporary
choreographic art. The specificity of cross-disciplinary interaction in choreography is revealed through its synthetic
nature and the interaction of plastic, musical, theatrical, and visual languages. The distinctions between
multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity, cross-disciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity are clarified, which makes it possible
to define the essence of the cross-disciplinary approach in dance directing. The main principles of cross-disciplinarity
are substantiated, including the integration of artistic languages, dominance (hierarchy of expressive means), functional
interaction, semantic coherence, and the integrity of the stage image. It is proved that the implementation of these
principles contributes to the enhancement of conceptual integrity of choreographic productions and expands the
expressive possibilities of stage performance. Novelty. The study proposes a systematic approach to understanding
cross-disciplinarity in choreography and, for the first time, formulates a set of principles that determine its
implementation in dance directing.
The practical significance. The results of the research can be used in choreographic practice, in the training of
future choreographers and directors, as well as in further scientific studies of contemporary performing arts.
