The article analyses the artistic possibilities of thematic photography. It draws on the experience of collaboration between students and lecturers from the Department of Fashion and Show Business and Lyudmila Smolyakova, a Ukrainian artist and master craftsman of Ukraine in the reconstruction of Trypillian civilisation ceramics. As a result of this collaboration, a show of the artist's contemporary clothing designs inspired by the art of the Trypillian era was held, as well as a thematic photo shoot. Thematic photo images in a dynamic format during the show and studio photos allow us to demonstrate images that carry the sacred meanings of a significant period in Ukrainian history. It is emphasised that the interaction between fashion photography and cultural content contributes to the revelation of the narrative, aesthetic and conceptual potential of the presented images of contemporary clothing, as well as to the consideration of fashion photography not only as a commercial object, but also to emphasising its role in artistic innovations and design practices.
The purpose of this publication is to analyse thematic fashion photography as a means of cultural and historical narrative in contemporary clothing design. The article uses the following research methods: biographical (in studying the period of Trypillian culture by Lyudmila Smolyakova), historical and chronological (in recreating individual stages of the development of Trypillian civilisation), figurative and stylistic, formal analysis (when studying the images of L. Smolyakova's collection), generalisation (to identify the aesthetic features of thematic photography), and a comprehensive approach (which allowed us to understand the interaction between the artist – the author of the collection – and the photographer). The results of the study can be used in the preparation of teaching materials on the history of design and fashion.
