THEATRE MUSIC OF THE FIRST QUARTER OF THE 21 ST CENTURY IN THEORETICAL AND ART HISTORICAL RESEARCH

The purpose of the article is to reveal clarify the definition, main directions, and theoretical and methodological principles of the study of theatrical music in art historical works of the first quarter of the 21 st century.
Research methodology. The method of theoretical analysis and the source research method, the application of which is necessary for the study of scientific literature; analysis of basic research concepts, the method of systemic analysis and the method of generalization.
Scientific novelty. Revealed the peculiarities of the interpretation and study of theatrical music of the first quarter of the 21 st
century in art history works. The definition of the concept of «theatrical music» in a broad sense is proposed as music in theatrical productions of various types of theater (from musical and musical-dramatic, to dramatic, plastic, puppet theater, etc.), which is characterized by a number of features and functions in accordance with the specifics of genres and types of musical-theatrical and dramatic art. Promising directions of art history analysis of theatrical music in Ukraine of the first quarter of the 21 st century are outlined, in particular: variability of the modern musical-theatrical space; specificity of theatrical music in post-dramatic theater performances; comparative analysis of theatrical music of modern musical, dramatic, plastic theater; understanding of the essence of opera and ballet music in the work of Ukrainian composers of the first quarter of the 21 st century; interaction of authentic and innovative in theatrical music of large and small forms; representation of the idea of national identity, etc.
Practical significance. Individual aspects and conclusions of the study can be used in further scientific development of the problem of theatrical music in Ukraine in the first quarter of the 21 st century.
