Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze the role of directing in the modern theatrical process, in particular, to analyze the variety of styles and methods used by modern directors, and how these decisions affect the interpretation of the play's text.
Research methodology. The literature review was conducted in order to systematize the available theoretical knowledge and research on the topic of directing in the theater. Observation of the performances allowed to collect primary data on the influence of the director's decisions on the perception of the performance. The use of analytical analysis made it possible to synthesize and evaluate the obtained information, to identify the main trends and connections between the director's decisions and their impact on the interpretation of the text. Results. It is proven that through the prism of his own vision, cultural context and modern realities, the director becomes an intermediary between the author and the audience, capable of radically changing the perception of the work. Modern theater often acts as a platform for dialogue with the audience, where the direction allows the director to ask the audience questions, forcing them to rethink their own views and empathize with the characters. Effective direction can engage the audience not only intellectually, but also emotionally, making the theatrical experience unforgettable.
Directing, which affects not only the interpretation of a specific work, but also the direction of the development of theatrical art as a whole, becomes a source of innovation, opening up new forms of expression and opportunities for experimentation. It was determined that the director's decisions shape the theatrical experience, determine the perception of the interpretation and encourage reflection. Novelty. The novelty of the study also lies in the detailed analysis of a wide range of directing styles – from classical to experimental – and the assessment of their influence on the interpretation of the text. It provides a new perspective on the diversity of theater practices and enriches the understanding of directing as an art. The practical significance.
The study offers a systematic approach to the analysis and evaluation of directorial decisions, which can be applied by directors, actors and other theater practitioners to reflect on their own projects. This contributes to a deeper understanding of the impact of directing on a theatrical performance and can be used as a basis for developing new creative concepts.
