TRADITIONAL UKRAINIAN PAINTINGS IN THE DECORATION OF PORCELAIN AND FAIENCE OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE XX CENTURY
Abstract
The purpose is to determine the specifics of the use of traditional paintings in the decoration of Ukrainian porcelain and faience of the second half of the XX century. In addition, the aim is to reveal the activities of local ceramist artists.
Results. The article highlights the main traditional Ukrainian paintings that were used in the decoration of fine ceramics of the second half of the XX century. It was found that Opishnia, Vasylkiv and Kosiv paintings were used in the decoration of clay products. Instead, in the design of porcelain and faience, Petrykivka was traced, which was successfully adapted for various forms of dishes and sets. The work of such masters as M. Tymchenko, G. Pavlenko, V. Klymenko-Zhukova and P. Tarasenko, who contributed to the popularization of this species of painting, is characterized. It was found that an important role in the spread of the trend of using «Petrykivka» in the decoration of porcelain and faience Kyiv Experimental Ceramic and Art Factory. The use of this traditional motif in the products of Korosten porcelain production was revealed, in particular thanks to the artist M. Tymchenko.
Research methodology. The study applies general scientific principles, methods and approaches. Principles of comprehensiveness, historical-chronological, historical-comparative, historical-cultural methods, art historical analysis and cross-cultural methods are applied.
Novelty. It is associated with the study of the peculiarities of adaptation of «Petrykivka» for the design of porcelain and faience, as a new variant of the embodiment of the traditional motif of decorative art of Ukraine.
The practical significance. To deepen knowledge about the use of Petrykivka painting in the decoration of porcelain and faience of the XX century.
