WORKS OF I. STRAVINSKY IN BALLET: CHRONOLOGY AND TYPOLOGY
Abstract
The aim of the article is to comprehend at the conceptual level the phenomenon of ballets to the music of I. Stravinsky, to identify the typology of his works in the optics of ballet theater.
Research methodology. The study uses historically chronological and diachronic approaches, analysis and comparison of sources, events, facts.
Results. I. Stravinsky's works became the basis for the creation of a large number of choreographic performances of both classical and neoclassical style, and in postmodern aesthetics during the XX – the first two decades of the XXI century. I. Stravinsky's early ballets «Firebird», «Parsley», «Holy Spring» are characterized by internal stylistic unity, are staged on the stages of world-famous ballet theaters and in small troupes of modern dance. The most famous are the interpretations of M. Bejart, D. Neumayer, P. Bausch, A. Prelzhokaz; in Ukraine – A. Rubina, V. Litvinov, R. Poklitaru. After 1913, I. Stravinsky created as one-act traditional («Soldier's Story», «Nightingale's Song», «Pulchinella», «Fairy's Kiss», «Playing Cards») and synthetic, «mixed» ballets («Fairy Tale of the Fox»), Rooster, Cat and Ram, a fun show with singing and music», «Wedding», «Persephone»), as well as the Greek cycle («Apollo Musaget» «Orpheus» «Orpheus» «Agon»); ballets that gravitate to show programs («Circus Polka» («Elephant Ballet») etc.). Choreographers interpret the non-ballet music of I. Stravinsky.
The first director of most works on non-ballet music was J. Balanchine in the troupe «New York City Ballet».
Novelty. The typology of I. Stravinsky's music in the optics of ballet theater was proposed for the first time: ballet works – early three ballets; traditional and mixed ballets, as well as works that gravitate to the show; non-ballet music interpreted by choreographers.
The practical significance. The materials and results of the study can be applied to further research on the problems of ballet art, as well as to deepen the knowledge of students, graduate students, anyone interested in choreography.
