NATIONAL MENTALITY AND IDENTITY IN MUSIC : DEFINITIONS AND CORRELATION OF THIS CONCEPTS
Abstract
The aim of the article is to distinguish the essence, analyze the definitions and correlate the concepts of «national mentality» and «national identity» in music.
Research methodology. The methodology of the study is based on the understanding that among the relevant concepts that are developed in the humanities in Ukraine during the Independence period are «mentality» and «national identity», due to the need to know the specifics of their own national thinking and its impact on the life of the state. These processes have expanded to the field of art history and, in particular, musicology, which from its standpoint joined the attempt to find answers to questions of national self-determination, identification, cognition and more.
Thus, there is an urgent need to distinguish in the broad scientific field of such research, the labelling of declared concepts in the relevant definitions and, as a result – their correlation in the musicological context.
Novelty. The novelty of this study lies in outlining the scientific panorama of the mentality concepts and identity in their projection on the music art and in the correlation of their meanings from a musicological point of view.The practical significance. The results of this article may encourage future researchers of Ukrainian music to study current topics in this scientific field.
