UKRAINIAN NATIONAL TRAITS IN MODERN FINE ART AS A SUBJECT OF SCIENTIFIC REFLECTIONS
Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the state of research on the issue of manifestation of Ukrainian national traits in modern fine art. The author seeks to identify the main directions of development of the declared topic in existing publications.
Research methodology. Ten main publications on this topic were considered (monographs, abstracts of theses, articles in scientific journals). Cultural, artistic and theoretical analysis, systematization and synthesis were used for the work.
The results. It was established that the investigated authors see the following as manifestations of nationalism in modern Ukrainian fine art: symbols of Trypil culture, the age of Kyivan Rus, signs of the Baroque style and the Cossack Renaissance. Among the themes characteristic of national Ukrainian art, such themes as Zaporizhzhya Sich, Cossack freewoman, Cossack Mamai, themes of folklore works, Slavic mythology, Ukrainian (in particular, Carpathian) landscape are tracked. Modern sacred painting also continues national traditions.
The novelty consists in determining the superiority of the art historical context over the cultural one in the study of national features in Ukrainian modern fine art. In addition, it is determined that the majority of researchers pay attention to national features only in certain areas, trends in art, or in the work of specific authors.
The practical significance. The obtained results can be used to analyze the modern fine arts of Ukraine for the presence of national features in pictorial and graphic works.
Conclusions. In order to create a holistic view of the presence of national features in the modern fine art of Ukraine, this issue must be further investigated in a cultural context, because the concept of «national» in art includes not only expressive artistic means, themes, ethnic elements or folklore motifs, but also cultural, philosophical and psychological aspects.
