Keywords: Paraliturgical music, canon, monody, chants, sacred tradition, orthodox, liturgy, nocturn, Viktor Stepurko.

Abstract

The purpose of article is to define and highlight the influence of paraliturgical music on the cultural and creative processes of the artistic space.

Among the research methods we use theoretical (analysis and synthesis, concretization and generalization, analogy and comparison) and empirical methods of observation and description.

The scientific novelty lies in the analysis and comparison of the modern paraliturgical tradition with roots of Orthodox music. The article systematized the evolutionary movement of the development of notation and traced the changes caused by this phenomenon through the prism of choral Orthodox singing, a certain place in the cultural processes that currently exist in Ukraine.

Conclusions: Performing church traditions have been established since ancient times, but, unfortunately, today the church does not accept all kinds of renewals. «Out-of-church» (paraliturgical) music is not very often heard at church events, only during festivals or rare concerts dedicated to something. After all, this deprives most people of the opportunity to enrich their spiritual world, to renew the colours of the inner world with fresh shades. Modern sacred music must be sounded more often in order to awaken the spirituality of modern humanity with its fresh emotionality, because it seems to have fallen asleep from identity and monotony.
