THE CONNECTION WITH THE NATURE AS A MENTAL BASIS OF UKRAINIAN CULTURE IN THE WORKS OF LESYA UKRAINKA
Abstract
The objective of the article: The main purpose of the article may be defined as a study of the creative heritage of Lesya Ukrainka with regard to how it reflects the mentality of the Ukrainian people. The main task identified by the authors was to analyze the multifaceted spectrum of images the poetess used in her works for a picturesque depiction of the harmonious connection between Ukrainians and nature, a syncretic merger of nature and man, inbuilt in our people's worldview, which from ancient times to the present day has been forming an outlook and values of Ukrainians.
The methodology of the research is based on the application of the semiotic research method. Additional basic philosophical methods of synthesis and analysis were used in combination with the historical method.
Scientific novelty. Against a backdrop of modern dialogue between man and nature, emerges a new indicative stage of rethinking and reassessing the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people, its unique deep connection with the natural environment, penetration of the natural world into all spheres of Ukrainian cultural life. Search for self-identification, highlighting distinct features of the Ukrainian mentality are urgent tasks of the present. The immanent connection between our people and nature, reflected in Ukrainian folklore, folk art, ancient traditions, beliefs, and mythology requires a deep, detailed study. Considered through the prism of perception of prominent Ukrainian artists, this folk life philosophy acquires the pathos of a wise teacher who helps to see the main and set priorities in the turbulent flow of modernity. Conclusions. Reaching into the depths of the centuries, full of wisdom life philosophy of Ukrainians is expressed through such features of mentality as connection with nature, tolerance, cordocentrism, respect for ancestral heritage, will, brotherhood, bravery, dynamism, openness, moral strength, flamboyance, dreaminess, lyricism, and humor. They are a priceless treasure that we have inherited from our glorious ancestors and which we must pass on to future generations. The deepest foundations of the Ukrainian mentality, represented in the creative work of the outstanding Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka, give the possibility to perceive nature as a sanctuary of folk authenticity, appear as logically meaningful historical patterns, and spiritual phenomena that form the framework of the people's value system. Lesya Ukrainka should become not only a «glorified» author but a «carefully read» one, because her works, built on a deep understanding of the essence of the Ukrainian mentality and a sense of interconnection between our people and nature; they can revive the spirit of unity, dignity, optimism and start the era of the true spiritual Renaissance of the Ukrainian people.
