The article examines the development of mural art in the world and in Ukraine, analyzes its main functions and impact
on urban space. It identifies the peculiarities of the formation of murals at the global level4from political propaganda murals
of the early 20th century to contemporary street art practices that have acquired a social, aesthetic, and tourist character.
Particular attention is paid to the evolution of Ukrainian mural art after 1991, in particular the rapid development of murals
after 2014 in Kyiv and other cities under the influence of socio-political changes. Murals in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and other Ukrainian cities are analyzed in terms of their content, social messages, and impact on the community. It is shown that murals perform a number of functions (aesthetic, communicative, social, tourist-economic, ecological, cultural-educational, etc.) in the urban environment. A comparison of Ukrainian mural art practices with international ones is carried out, and common trends and differences are identified. The conclusions outline the significance of murals for the transformation of urban space and public consciousness, and identify prospects for further research in this area.
