Abstract

The purpose of the article is a comprehensive theoretical understanding and analysis of the transformation of the artistic language of Ukrainian theater in the conditions of the Ukrainian War of Independence by determining its aesthetic and semantic dimensions.
The research methodology is based on the use of system-analytical, historical-cultural and typological methods, which allowed us to analyze the change in the artistic paradigm of theater, systematize new aesthetic codes and determine its socio-cultural functions in the conditions of war realities.
Research results. It was found that Ukrainian theater made a decisive paradigm shift from universalism and metaphorical reflection to the direct language of trauma, testimony and documentary. At the level of artistic language, this process formed the aesthetics of war minimalism (fragmentation, collage structure, bodily expression) and active intermedia synthesis (using authentic video content). The new functional role of the theater is emphasized. It has become an instrument of cultural resistance, social therapy, and the affirmation of national and cultural subjectivity. It has been revealed that the repertoire strategy (appeal to the classics and the emergence of the genres of farce and reflection of the future) is aimed at consolidating society and understanding historical and cultural identification, in particular. through appeal to classical works of theatrical drama and their interpretation through the realities of Ukraine in the present. Also, productions that are associated with the personal experience of living the war by both the authors of the plays and the performers of the roles are of particular importance. Theater venues have become a place of important communication on the topics of shared traumas for both actors and spectators.
The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive understanding of the aesthetic and semantic changes in the artistic language of Ukrainian theater as a holistic process caused by the war, with the allocation of specific new genre forms and aesthetic codes (aesthetics of war minimalism, stand-up theater).
Practical significance. The results of the study can be used when teaching courses on the history and theory of theater art, cultural studies and sociology of culture, as well as for the formation of strategies for international cultural diplomacy, which represents the Ukrainian experience of the function of theater in wartime: as a place for humanitarian and social work, and a place for artistic unity of the community in the language of artistic expression.
