THE COSSACK THEME IN THE UKRAINIAN FOLK STAGE CHOREOGRAPHY 1950-1980 AS A MEANS OF TRANSLATION OF ETHNOCULTURAL IDENTITY

Abstract

The article is devoted to identifying the specifics of the broadcast of ethnocultural identity through dances of the
Cossack theme in the 1950s – 1980s. in the Ukrainian SSR. It is proved that in the conditions of widespread propaganda
in the USSR of internationalism and friendship of peoples, a kind of ideological Ukrainization took place through the
stage images of the Cossacks. The Cossack idea, interpreted by choreographic means in professional and amateur folkstage
dance groups during this period («Zaporozhtsi», «Hopak», «Povzunets»», «What the Willow Cries About»
directed by P. Virskyi, «Zaporozhtsi» directed by L. Kalinin and others), has become one of the important factors in the
formation of Ukrainian national identity.
