CHINESE NIANHUA OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE XX CENTURY: CREATIVE DIMENSIONS, WORLDVIEW ASPECTS
Abstract
The aim. The study considers the art of nianhua as an artistic phenomenon that functioned under the conditions
of a totalitarian society in China in the second half of the XX century. Nianhua art has existed for four decades as a
political-ideological and aesthetic phenomenon. The creative processes in the art of folk painting were controlled and
directed by government agencies. Nianhua is the only fine art genre to receive wide support from the official leadership
in the 1950s and 1960s, in contrast to traditional guohua painting, graphics, and oil painting.
The purpose of this paper is to identify the features of the existence of the nianhua in the second half of the XX
century in China, coverage of worldview aspects, and identification of artistic and stylistic features of works.
Research results. The article identifies the main stages in the development of the Chinese painting nianhua in the
second half of the XX century; the formation of the system of nianhua genres and their evolution are considered; the
dynamics of artistic and expressive means and the figurative system of nianhua in the context of the historical and
cultural situation is investigated. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that the folk picture of nianhua in the
development of China's national culture in the second half of the XX century was of great importance, where the
traditional benefits of the Chinese acquire a national meaning. Nianhua contains not only wishes of wealth and wellbeing
to the owner of the painting but also reflect the idea of prosperity and power of the state as a whole.
