Abstract

The main varieties of acoustic guitar used in the musical practice of the present are outlined. The wide distribution of various styles of variety music influenced the formation of a large number of instruments designed to reproduce a certain type of music – in the right register, range, with a certain level of dynamics. Attention is drawn to those modifications that are made with the instrument – increasing or decreasing the guitar body, adding or reducing the number of strings, changing the material from which the strings and the body are made. Attention is drawn to the fact that many guitar-shaped instruments are of ethnic origin and are associated with the performance of a certain type of works. The inclusion of varieties of acoustic guitar in the wide use by professional performers is a promising direction, which allows diversifying the guitarist’s abilities,
contributing to its universalization, and also creating ways for the development of composer creativity.
