STRATEGIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF BALLROOM DANCE IN USSR IN THE MID-1950S – EARLY 1960S

Keywords: ballroom dance, choreography, Soviet ballroom dance program, dance

Abstract

The article shows that in the early 1950s in USSR there were three positions regarding the development of ballroom dance: the ban on modern dances and dance floors; distribution and development of modern ballroom dancing, mastery of western dances; creation and popularization of the repertoire of Soviet ballroom dances. But not one of them became a monostrategy for the development of ballroom dance in the USSR. In the second half of the 1950s Ballroom dance in the USSR embarked on the path of compromise, from the political and ideological point of view of the state-party nomenclature, of development that combined the development of standardized western dances and dances of the Soviet program.
