Abstract

The article reveals the features of the iconoclasm of the saintly Evstace in the Ukrainian art of the XІ–XVIII
centuries and the symbols of his image. The originality of the image of the holy warrior is manifested in a combination of the traditions of Ukrainian, Byzantine and Western European art. In the Ukrainian art the image of saint Evstace became an expression of the embodiment of the ideas of the conversion of the infidels into the true path of the righteous faith. An example of monuments of icon painting, sculptural plastics, book miniatures and temple paintings analyzed scenes depicting a holy warrior and artistic means of expressiveness.
