THE IMAGE OF TOKYO IN EUROPEAN FEATURE FILMS (1945–2015)

Abstract

This article offers an analytical review of a number of European feature films, on the basis of which the features of the representation of the image of Tokyo are indicated. The main aspects of the perception of the Japanese capital and their structural elements are covered. The principles of displaying architecture, infrastructure of the city and social life are characterized in the selected films. It is determined that the most common aspect of the representation of Tokyo's life in cinema is social problems, to which the author pays special attention. In the conclusions, the author substantiates the study of Tokyo as a structural element of the national image of Japan in the European consciousness and offers prospects for further research.
