PROCEDURE FOR REVIEW OF ARTICLES, submitted for publication in the publication "UKRAINIAN CULTURE: PAST, PRESENT, WAYS OF DEVELOPMENT (Direction: «Art Studies»; «Culturology»)
 
In order to comply with the principles of academic integrity, ethical standards adopted by the international scientific community, a mandatory review procedure of all articles submitted to the publication "UKRAINIAN CULTURE: PAST, MODERN, WAYS OF DEVELOPMENT: Development».
The task of reviewing is to facilitate the selection of author's manuscripts for publication and to make specific recommendations for their improvement. The peer-review procedure is focused on the most objective assessment of the content of a scientific article, determining its compliance with the requirements of the journal and provides a comprehensive analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the article.
The following forms of article review are used:
- External (review of manuscripts of articles by a doctor or candidate of science who is a specialist in the relevant field). (The reviewer, whose name is indicated in a particular collection, is sent a layout for detailed review and the possibility of recommendation for publication. In this case, the reviewers are well-known scientists who have experience in such work);
- internal (review of manuscripts of articles by members of the editorial board):
1. The external review should cover the following issues:
- compliance with the content of the article stated in the title of the topic;
- compliance of the article with modern achievements in this field;
- availability of the article to readers for whom it is intended, in terms of language, style, location of the material, etc ;
- expediency of publishing the article taking into account the previously published literature on this issue;
- pros and cons of the article; what corrections and additions should be made by the author;
- conclusion on the possibility of publishing this manuscript in the journal.
2. External reviews are certified in the manner prescribed by the institution where the reviewer works. The review must be signed by the reviewer with a transcript of the position, academic degree and academic title.
3. The internal review is performed by the members of the editorial board of the journal in accordance with the protocols «Ukrainian culture: past, present, ways of development. Direction: «culturology».
The journal uses double-blind (both do not know about each other).
In addition to members of the editorial board, other highly qualified domestic and foreign specialists (mostly doctors of sciences, professors) with thorough knowledge, relevant competence, as well as experience in a specific scientific field may be invited to review articles.
Each English annotation (in the collection 2: identical to the Ukrainian and extended - in the appropriate form) of the articles of the collection is checked by a philologist, whose name is also indicated in the source data of the collection and edited if necessary.
The names of the reviewers of the collection are also indicated in each issue and are constantly changed (according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine).
One of the requirements for the articles is to check them for plagiarism, as stated in the requirements published on the website of the department, where the publication in published.
4. The terms of review in each case are determined taking into account the creation of conditions for the most prompt publication of the article, but may not exceed two weeks.
5. The reviewer comments on the quality of the manuscript on such points as:
- scientific novelty,
- validity of the results,
- significance of results,
- clarity of teaching,
- design quality;
6. In accordance with these paragraphs, decisions made on the appropriateness of publication, or the need to finalize the manuscript or the inexpediency of its publication.
7. In case of deviation of the article from the publication, the editorial board sends a reasoned refusal to the author.
8. Articles by prominent scholars, as well as specially «invited» articles are exempt from the standard review procedure. Articles authored (co-authored) by members of the editorial board of the publication are not reviewed. Although their English annotations are also checked by a philologist.
9. The final decision on the expediency of publication (as well as on the publication of the collection in general) is made ed. Board of Publishing and (at the request of the Department of Cultural Studies and Museum Studies), the Academic Council of the University and the Academic Council of the Institute of Cultural Studies of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, as it is a joint publishing project approved by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
10. The original reviews are stored in the editorial board of the scientific journal "UKRAINIAN CULTURE: PAST, MODERN, WAYS OF DEVELOPMENT (Direction: «Art History» for some time and after its publication.
 
Ethical principles
 
Manuscripts under consideration are strictly confidential, so the reviewer does not discuss the manuscript or even mention its existence in conversation with third parties. Exceptionally, when the reviewer wants to consult with the circle a colleague on a manuscript issue, he notifies the editor and informs him that the people he is contacting have been informed about the confidentiality of the information they are working with.
 
Reviewers should not use the information obtained for personal gain
